Lesson resources
I use these videos to teach drawing animals. When we do this at school, each student chooses a photograph of an animal and sketches that animal with as much detail and accuracy as possible. I have taught this lesson to all ages, and each student can be successful at their own level. When you practice looking closely and paying attention to shape and line, your drawing skills will greatly improve!

This is a self-portrait tutorial that is designed for older kids (2nd grade and up.) Materials needed: -paper -pencil -eraser -mirror (or photograph of your face) This second video is similar, but designed for younger students (K4-1st grade). Keep in mind that not all younger students are developmentally ready for this type of representational drawing, but it can be good practice for those who are ready! The final video also involves drawing people, but from head to toe instead of just the face. One of the most important skills for an artist to learn is how to really LOOK at something and draw exactly what you see. This drawing activity will help develop those skills!
Materials needed: -any kind of paper -something to draw with (pencil, crayon, marker) -items from nature (plants, flowers, sticks, rocks... anything!) Think you need paper and paint to make art? Not true!! This lesson shows you how to create art by arranging objects you have at home in a creative way.
Materials needed: Anything you can find! What can you do if you don't have any paint at home? Look around your kitchen!

Materials needed: -any kind of paper or cardboard -a paintbrush -coffee -tea -juice -powdered drink mix (like kool-aid or crystal light) -food coloring -bowl of water to wash your paintbrush -paper towels Optional materials: -aluminum foil -markers (the water-based kind, not permanent) Use plain water to paint on the driveway or sidewalk! .
Material needed: -bucket of water -paintbrush Optional materials: -shapes to trace around -spray bottle Remember, you'll have to work fast since your painting will disappear as the water evaporates. Have a camera close by so you can take a picture first! |
